As the practical arm of the Uniting Church, UnitingCare NSW.ACT wants to help the community to lead a greener way of life.
Since forming in 1977 The Uniting Church has had a progressive position on the environment. In a Statement to the Nation in 1977, the Inaugural Assembly of the Uniting Church in Australia (the Assembly being the church’s national body), said:
We are concerned with the basic human rights of future generations and will urge the wise use of energy, the protection of the environment and the replenishment of the earth’s resources for their use and enjoyment.
UnitingCare NSW.ACT is committed to making a difference to climate change. We want to be part of the solution rather than the problem and are urging people to consider how they can contribute to this by reducing their environmental impact by making small changes.
Ways you can help:
- Use less water
- Use less energy
- Recycle more - remember the three 'R's' - 'Reduce', 'Reuse' and 'Recycle'
This paper aims to generate discussion by members of the Uniting Church and the wider community on climate change, offering a social justice and theological perspective and how Australians and their government have responded.
