On Pancake Day, held annually on Shrove Tuesday, thousands of individuals, school, community, church and business groups nation-wide cook and sell pancakes to raise funds for UnitingCare's work with Australians in need.
In 2008, Pancake Day will be held on Tuesday 5 February, you can register now to participate, which will help UnitingCare to support more than more million Australians each year.
Whether you choose to hold an event on Tuesday 5 February, or another date, here are some ideas you might like to consider:
- Ask your friends and family to your house for a Pancake Day supper
- Have a Pancake Day morning or afternoon tea with friends or work colleagues;
- Instead of holding a sausage sizzle, why not cook pancakes on the bbq;
- Ask a local supermarket if you can cook and sell pancakes outside their store at lunchtime on a Saturday;
- Ask the local principal if your group can cook pancakes for students;
- Have a pancake topping competition between your local councillors or football team members and ask the Mayor to pick the winner;
- Organise a Pancake Day event in the town square, sell pancakes and have a pancake flipping competition passers-by can compete in;
- Sell tickets to a Pancake Day dinner and serve gourmet pancakes;
- Ask your favourite cafe or restaurant to participate.
